Dear Reader We hope this finds you well. 14 beds and counting!! Yep, we’ve slept in 14 beds so far, that’s almost changing to a new bed every 2 nights. It’s been about a month since we left on this outreach. In this newsletter we want to share the story of our time so far in Ecuador. Daniel is producing a series of shorts films about our time here. You can watch the first one here Leading up to July we were busy with our fundraising and preparing for the outreach. We left for our first stop in Canada at the beginning of July. On our way to meet the church and youth group in Vancouver we were blessed with being able to reconnect with friends we have not seen in over 20 years. We spend a few days with a friend of Wendy’s who she worked with in Ecuador and hasn’t seen in 25+ years. After visting them we were able to reconnect to some of Daniel’s friends who he worked with in YWAM 25 years ago, he was also able to reconnect with another friend in Vancouver from the same time 27 years ago after remembering he lived there. It was a beautiful time to reconnect and find friendships that can last and be picked up where they left off.
After visiting Daniel’s friends on Vancouver island we took a ferry across to the mainland and had a chance to take in more of the beauty of Canada. We arrived in Vancouver and were taken to stay with our hosts, a family from the church we would be working with. Our week in Vancouver was spent teaching with the youth group, hosting an Ecuadorian meal that the youth helped prepare and all the parents were invited to. We spent a couple of days preparing all of the resources we needed for the outreach. We also snuck in a couple of visits in the area to see some of Vancouver and go up one of their landmarks Grouse Mountain. There’s a well known walking trail up the mountain called the Grouse Grind, but unfortunately Daniel broke his big toe earlier in the week and so we travelled up by cable car.
After all of our travel we made our way to village. Our journey was filled with amazing times of rebuilding old friendships, finding new friendships and discovering more of God’s goodness as we travelled through Ecuador. We are constantly amazed by what God is doing through all we put our hands to. Whether that be through spending time with friends or walking with the youth who are going to experience another culture and see how God wants to use them in missions and be transformed to walk more like Jesus.
