This week I was processing a bit with Wendy about what I could update about. It’s not been a very exciting week, mainly working on some administrative tasks, yet this morning I was taking some time listening to the song Give Me Jesus. It speaks about how Jesus is the most important person in our lives. As I was meditating on this I was reminded of how all we do is with Jesus. He is with us in every aspect of our lives.
I used to do a lot of hiking in my teenage years. We would be out most weekends from September to March for a whole hike across Dartmoor. We had sunny, windy, wet and even icy weather. It was wonderful and tiring. At the end of a weekend of hiking and camping, especially on the weekends where the weather was particularly brutal, I would arrive home soaking, aching and ready for a rest. I would run a hot bath and soak my muscles. One of those baths you just sink into and don’t want to get out.
That feeling of soaking in that hot bath often reminds me of my relationship with God. That He envelops every part of my life. Quite often we can put God in a list of priorities in our lives. He is the very top, yet I’ve found when I view God this way He becomes part of a checklist. Have I given God my priority today? Have I had my quiet time with Him? Not to say taking time to pray, read the Bible is not important, yet I’ve found it a become a slot of time in my day.
Much like the hot bath my day has shifted to not just being a slot in the day or week I give to God but to know and invite Him into every part of my day. So when I am driving the girls to their dance class, or I’m sat at my desk answering emails, or making some administrative decisions Jesus is right there with me. He permeates every aspect of my life. In that way life is exciting because we get to live our lives with Jesus.
Just as he would spend time with his disciples sometimes preaching and teaching, bringing revelation of God’s Kingdom to them. And sometimes he was sitting eating a meal with them, laughing with them, walking along a road to get to the next town with them.
So in the exciting days and in the less exciting days I pray it will be filled with the knowledge that God is right there with you in every aspect of your life.
